A Tea Stall
A tea stall is a
familiar sight in Bangladesh. It is a favourite haunt for all kinds of people.
It is found in towns as well as village markets and the different points of
roads. In town it is usually situated by the side of narrow streets on
footpaths of roads. The appearance of the stall has something in common. The
shopkeeper sits at a table or on a chouki. Around him there are shelves in
which there are jars of biscuits, chanachur, buns, or other snacks. In front of
the shop, bunches of banana are kept hanging on pieces of strings. A 'boy'
prepares tea on an oven which has either coal or twigs as fuel. The kettle is
always on the oven, and water boils in it. Cups are kept on a table nearby, and
a small pot of water for washing the cups and saucers. There are benches inside
the shop, and some benches are also outside it. Customers sit on the benches
and order tea, and sometimes some tea things like biscuits, chanachur, banana,
and buns. Almost all kinds of people are found at a tea stall. A tired rickshaw
puller gets off his paddling seats, and has a quick cup of tea. Even educated
people or rich people who are in a hurry for some business, and have no time to
look for better place for tea are sometimes found in a tea stall. Sometimes
gossip-mongers haunt the place, engage themselves in gossips. The tea stall
remains busy from early morning till late night.
Tree Plantation
Trees are the most
important gift of nature. They are inseparable part of our existence. Since the
dawn of civilization, man has a close relationship with trees. Trees help us in
many ways. They are our best friends. They play an important role in our life
and economy. We get fruits, flowers, fuel and timber from trees. Trees keep air
fresh and improve our environment. They check soil erosion and save us from
flood and storm. They give us oxygen and take away carbondioxide. They help us
to keep the ecological balance on our earth. They prevent natural calamities
like flood, drought, soil erosion, etc. Without trees there will have no rain.
They also provide shelter to birds and animals and add beauty to nature. So,
considering all these things we should plant trees more and more in a planned
way. Lands of this country are highly suitable for the growth and development
of trees. Sea beaches, low-lying unused lands, sides of the highways and roads
can be brought under the scheme of tree plantation. Generally, June and July
are the most suitable period for planting trees in our country. There are some
trees which can be planted round the year. The good news is that our people
nowadays are more conscious about the importance of trees. The government has
also taken a massive programme for tree plantation. This programme should be
made popular all over the country. At the same time, we should not ruin the
forests and destroy the trees. If for our necessity, we cut a tree then we must
plant at least two trees. Everyone must come forward in this regard so that we
can make our country a land of green beauty.
Our National Flag
A
national flag is the symbol of independence and sovereignty of a country. Every
independent country has the national flag which bears much dignity and deserve
respects from the people. As an independent country, we also have national
flag, which was designed by the late Kamrul Hassan, one of the reputed artists
of the country. We all respect our flag. There is a bitter background of
achieving this flag. To achieve this flag we had to struggle for nine months.
During this time we sacrificed our blood from the chest of our heroic sons.
Common people also lost their lives during this time. Girls lost their
chastity, and mothers lost their children, but they did not lose heart to
achieve the flag. By using all strength the people of this country were
struggling against the Pakistani Army and at last achieved the independence of
which the token is our national flag.
The size of our national flag is conspicuous and significant. It is of
rectangular size. The standard ratio of its length and width is 10:6. There is
a red circle in the middle of the green flag. The red circle must be one fifth
of the entire length of the flag. Our national flag bears a great significance.
The red portion of it reminds us of our bloody struggle and the green color of
the rest portion signifies the fresh and green environment of our country. The
national flag shows the sovereignty of our country when it flows by the wind.
In schools, colleges, and other Govt. institutes or offices, the national flag
is hoisted. On some special days which are regarded as important for our
nation, the national flag is kept half-mast. The free movement of the national
flag shows the independence of our country and upholds the dignity of us as an
independent nation over the world. The national flag signifies our dignity and
prestige. It is achieved through the incomparable sacrifice of live of lives of
our heroic sons. So, it is our duty to preserve its honour.
A Street Accident
A street accident is a collision between two vehicles or an
incident of vehicles happened on the road. It is a common affair in our
country. It has become a great problem. It occurs in our country for many
causes. Reckless driving is the main cause of road accident. Overtaking
tendency, over loading, narrow road, damaged road, lack of traffic police,
violation of traffic rules, increasing number of vehicles, lack of public
awareness, mechanical disorder, etc, also cause road accident. The effects of
road accidents are serious. Road accident causes a heavy loss to our life and
property. Many people die and many people get seriously wounded every year.
This problem can be solved by taking some measures. The drivers must be
conscious of life and security. They should avoid reckless driving and
overtaking tendency. Traffic rules should be strictly followed. Those who
violate traffic rules should be punished. Narrow roads should be broad. New
roads should be constructed. Parking of cars here and there should be stopped.
We can reduce the number of road accidents by raising public awareness. Mass
media can play an important role in this regard. The government agencies should
work seriously for safe road so that we can move safely on the road.
A Winter Morning
Winter is the coldest season of the
year in temperate climates, between autumn and spring. A winter morning is
dark, cold, calm and misty. It is refreshing and pleasant with low temperature.
Winter morning has its own impact. It is cooler than other season’s morning.
Temperature is least of the day’s temperature. There is no sound of chirping
birds. Streets look deserted. Every object is covered with dew. Due to darkness
nothing is visible. The fog which falls makes the surrounding invisible to see.
People prefer to get up late. They do not feel like moving out of their warm
and cozy bed. The morning air is pure and fresh and more beneficial than the
air of any summer morning. Very few and health conscious people go out for a
morning walk. Winter activities are fun to do. They also help in maintaining
fitness. The cold wave makes them shiver and they wear woollen clothes to
protect themselves from the winter ailments. The sun rise of a winter morning
is very enchanting. Every object of the nature shines with a fresh look. Mist
disappears slowly. The nature is at its best. Winter is my favourite season and
so the morning is also very special to me. I go for a morning walk with her. It
is very refreshing to start a day with a winter morning walk. Sitting nearby a
fireplace and reading story book is my favourite time of winter.
Traffic Jam
A long
line of vehicles which stuck in jam is called Traffic Jam. It has become a common sight in our modern city life.
Basically, it occurs because of the large number of vehicles. But in our
country, there are other causes too. The roads are mostly narrow and out of
repair. There are often garbage and building materials dumped on the roads.
There are many unauthorized roadside shops. Very often because of meetings and
processions, roads are blocked. There is a tendency among the drivers to
disregard traffic rules. The drivers also have an overtaking tendency.
Slow-moving and swift-moving vehicles move together. It also causes traffic
jams. Traffic jams are most acute during the time people go to or return from
their work or at the time of public examinations. It causes wastage of time and
sufferings to the passengers. People cannot go to their respective places in
time because of traffic jams. Patients on the way to hospitals suffer acutely
and it often causes death. Something must be done to solve this problem. The
number of traffic polices should be increased. Over-bridges should be built
more. There may be underground train service and improved bus service. The
roads must be suitable for the smooth movement of the vehicles. Some roads
should be made one-way. Certain vehicles may be prohibited to ply during the
peak hours of traffic. Above all, traffic rules must be enforced strictly. If
proper steps are not taken soon, city life will become intolerable in near
future.
Traffic
Jam
Traffic jam is a long queue of vehicles which many
vehicles stuck in jams. It is one of the main problems of urban life. It occurs
in major cities and towns. There are many causes of traffic jams. The main
cause of the file is the narrowness of the roads in relation to the large
number of vehicles. The vehicles have increased, but the roads are not increased.
The numbers of unlicensed vehicles are increasing day by day. Drivers have
little knowledge about traffic rules. The number of traffic police is
insufficient. Here and there, parking, and the trend is catching up the cause
of the creation of the file. It brings much suffering for us. Kill our precious
time. We cannot go to school, college, office and hospital in time. Sometimes,
ambulance and fire brigade not go fast because of a traffic jam. However, this
problem can be solved. We should increase the numbers of roads. Adequate
traffic police should be placed in high places. Traffic rules should also be
imposed with an iron fist. Unlicensed vehicles must be removed. Drivers must be
aware of the traffic rules and regulations.
A Rainy Day
A rainy
day is a day when it rains continuously all day long during the rainy season.
It is called a pouring day. The sky is overcast with thick of black clouds and
the sun remains hidden behind them. The weather is foul. The sun is not seen.
Sometimes, gusty wind blows with rain. Rivers, canals and tanks swell up. Roads
and paths get muddy and slippery. Water stands here and there. Normal life is
disrupted due to heavy rain. One does not generally come out without
compulsion. The common people cannot attend their respective places in time. If
anybody wants to go outside, he has
to take an umbrella with him. The poor and the day laborers do not like a rainy
day. They cannot go out to earn their living. Their suffering knows no bounds.
They go on starving. A rainy day is most welcomed to the students, as they have
no classes in the school. A rainy day brings joyous mood to the young boys of
the same age and they are seen to bathe in rainwater with merriment. People
pass the boy in listening to music, watching TV, reading novels. Those who have
imaginary bent of mind enjoy the beauty of nature being drenched in rains. The
cloudy sky lets loose their emotions. A rainy day has good effect on the soil.
It helps plants to grow, flowers to bloom and nature looks fresh and beautiful.
However, a rainy day is not pleasant to all.
A Rainy Day
A rainy day is a very familiar phenomenon in Bangladesh. A
rainy day usually occurs in the rainy season in our country. There is
continuous downpour of rain and the density of rain may vary from one hour to
all day long, or it is always raining. Sometimes it is a heavy shower,
sometimes it is a drizzle, and sometimes gusts of wind blow. Then the rain
drops are swept around, and they might enter the rooms if the windows are perchance
open. The thunder rolls and cracks sometimes, and the lightning flashes in the
sky showing a zigzag light across the dark sky. Roads and streets go under
water in most areas of the cities and towns. People move along the roads with
umbrellas. Rickshaws are not easily available, and if available at all, they
demand high fare. Busses are seen much crowded. Taxis are also scarce.
Office-goers and students suffer much on a rainy day. Those who do not use
umbrellas or raincoats are drenched through. Some students still enjoy a rainy
day because classes are rarely held. As a result, they spend their time in
gossiping, frolicking, and merry-making. Poor people, day laborers usually do
not find any job on a rainy day. They spend a sad day without income. Even domestic
animals, birds and beasts are put too much trouble on a rainy day. Only the
rich people who do not have any urgent duty, or who do not have to earn, enjoy
such a day much. People of a poetic bent of mind find poetic inspiration on a
rainy day though most people suffer a lot. A rainy day is a gloomy day indeed for most of the people.
