          preparation.
Zarif: I paid equal attention to all the subjects. So, I’m not worried about

         politics.
Zafi: All these are true. A patriotic leader can stamp out all kinds of
corruptions and injustice from society. But it’s really a difficult task
        to become a leader.
Zarif: Yes, but don’t forget that nothing is impossible for a hardworking
        and persevering man.

1. Dialogue Between Two Friends About Bad Effects of Smoking.
Ans: A dialogue between Zafi and Zarif about the bad effects of smoking is written below.
Zafi: Hello, Zarif. How’re you?
Zarif: I’m not well. I have been suffering from cough but what
      about you?
Zafi: I’m fine, but you are not well as you have become a chain
smoker nowadays. Smoking may be one of the main causes
      of your sickness.
Zarif: The doctor also said so. He also said that smoking might
cause cancer, heart attack, high blood pressure, chronic lung-
troubles and some other serious diseases.
Zafi: The doctor said rightly. One puff of cigarette smoke contains
fifteen billion particles of matter which are fatal to health.
Zarif: Besides, tobacco tar forms a brown, sticky mass inside the
lungs and it hinders the easy flow of blood.
Zafi: Then why you are not giving up smoking? Is there anything
      good in smoking?
Zarif: No, nothing. Nobody could put any argument in favour of
      smoking.
Zafi: Absolutely. Remember that smoking affects not only the
smokers but also the people that may be around them.
Zarif: You are right. It also causes a great deal of financial and
     economic loss.
Zafi: Knowing so much, why you don’t give up smoking? If you
thought seriously about its bad effects, you should not smoke
      anymore.
Zarif: I tried to give it up, but I could not. I cannot even
concentrate on my study without smoking.
Zafi: It is a lame excuse. If you want you can give up smoking, in
this case your will power is enough. It is a suicidal habit.
Zarif: Yes, I know it is a suicidal habit that kills a person slowly.
However, within the shortest possible time, I will give up
      smoking totally.
Zafi: Thank you for your wise decision. You should not smoke

      two days.
Zafi: Who has organized this Tree Fair?
Zarif: The Department of Agriculture and Forestry organizes this
Tree Fair every year in all towns and cities on the occasion
       of Tree Plantation Week.
Zafi: Why do they organise this Tree Fair?
Zarif: It appears strange to me that you are not yet fully aware of
      the importance of tree plantation.
Zafi: Right you are. Please tell me about the importance of tree
plantation. I want to know about it in detail.
Zarif: Trees are our best friends. Trees give us shade and shelter.
We cannot think of our existence without trees. They are a
great source of our food, vitamins, and furniture.
Zafi: But do you notice that many unscrupulous people are cutting
down trees at random? What might be its consequence?
Zarif: If they cut down trees indiscriminately, the country will one
day turn into a desert. The temperature will rise and it will
      cause green house effect.
Zafi: I think this would not be harmful if people planted more trees
after cutting trees. But they seem to be very indifferent to
     planting trees.
Zarif: You are right. To save life and maintain the ecological
balance of the environment, there is no alternative to tree
      plantation.
Zafi: Now I understand why tree plantation is so important. I think
people of all walks of life should come forward to make tree
      plantation programme a success.
Zarif: Absolutely, let us make aware of our friends and motivate

Monir : It is our illiteracy problem. What’s your opinion?
Sakib : Yes. It is a great problem as well as a curse for the
         country.
Monir : How?
Sakib : Because without education no nation can develop as
ignorance creates   any other problems .
Monir : What should we do then?
Sakib : We should work hard in hand to educate the illiterate.
Monir : We also need to create people’s awareness so that they
         send their children to school.
Sakib : Yes, of course. It’s the key factor. Our government has
already take some steps to remove illiteracy.
Monir : We must co-operate with the govt.
Sakib : Yes, we must come forward in this regard.
Monir : But there are some people in our society who are very
poor. They are unwilling to send their children to school
        owing to poverty.
Sakib : Indeed! It’s quite so. To persuade the poor people to send
their children to school the government has also started
        ‘Food fo Education’ programme.
Monir : Yes, it is an important step.
Sakib : But the govt. alone cannot solve the problem. Every
educated person including students must come forward to
         educate the illiterate.
Monir : Of course. To make the programme a success we must
        co-operate each other.
Sakib : If we are sincere in our words and deeds, nothing is
        impossible.

       problem of our illiteracy.
Zafi: Oh, I see. Illiteracy is undoubtedly a great problem as well as
      a curse for our country.
Zarif: You are right. It is the root cause of ignorance that frustrates
      all our development efforts.
Zafi: Exactly! No development efforts can succeed unless illiteracy
      is eradicated.
Zarif: Right you are. Our girls and women are the worst sufferers
from illiteracy. But how can we get rid of this problem?
Zafi: I think the government should take pragmatic steps to solve
this problem. The government should make education free up
to graduate level and help the poor students financially.
Zarif: You are partly right. But only government cannot solve this
problem. We all should come forward and work hand in hand
      to solve this problem.
Zafi: It is okay! But the government should start adult schools
again and take initiative so that our girls go to school and
     complete at least primary education.
Zarif: I agree with you! But creating mass awareness is very
      important in this case.
Zafi: You are right. If we develop mass awareness among the
guardians, they will be aware of the importance of education.
Zarif: Absolutely. We students also can persuade illiterate
guardians for sending their children to school. We should do it
because it is our social duty.
Zafi: Exactly, if we all are sincere in words and deeds, eradicating
illiteracy from our country is not impossible. Thank you.

     become the worst sufferers.
Zafi: Yes, all previous records of high prices have been broken.
Zarif: Exactly! Rice, fish, meat, chicken, kerosene oil, edible oils,
and vegetables are being sold at exceedingly high prices.
Zafi: Right. Besides, the price of paper, pen, and other stationary
items is also going up by leaps and bounds.
Zarif: Yes, as a result the guardians as well as the students are
      also facing a great trouble.
Zafi: But I cannot understand who is responsible for the high prices
     of things?
Zarif: I think the hoarders are largely responsible for this price hike.
Besides, shortage of food supply due to low production also
      accelerates the price hike.
Zafi: I also think so. But how can this price hike be checked?
Zarif: The government can take strict measures to curb the
hoarders' ill motive which creates artificial crisis. The leaders
of business community can also play vital role in this case.
Zafi: You are right. Besides, all conscious people including
business leaders should come forward to help the
government to control the price hike. Thank you.
