Preposition

A Preposition is a word that is placed before a noun or a pronoun to show the relation of that noun or pronoun with any other word of the sentence.

যে শব্দ noun বা pronoun-এর পূর্বে বসে ঐ noun বা pronoun-এর সঙ্গে বাক্যের অন্য word-এর সম্পর্ক বুঝিয়ে দেয়, তাকে Preposition বলে। Example: The book is on the table. Here “on” is preposition.

Some Prepositions:

towards=অভিমুখেthrough=ভিতরেদিয়েup=উপরেupon=উপরেwith=সঙ্গেwithin=ভিতরেwithout=ব্যতীত ।

AT এর ব্যবহার

ছোট জায়গার পূর্বে at বসে।

at home, at school, at hotel, at the bus stop, at kamlapur (village), at mirpur (town)

বড় জায়গার পূর্বে In বসে।

in Dhaka (city), in london, in kushtia (district), in a country.

অফিস লাইব্রেরী ইত্যাদি ক্ষেত্রে যখন তার স্বাভাবিক উদ্দেশ্যের কথা বলা হয় তখন তার পূর্বে at বসে।

he is at the office (on duty)

অফিস ইত্যাদি building-এর মধ্যে position বোঝাতে বা inside the building বোঝাতে in বসে।

he is in the office (inside the office)

নির্দিষ্ট সময়ের ক্ষেত্রে at বসে।

at 10 o’clock, at 9 a.m.

অনির্দিষ্ট ব্যাপক সময়ের ক্ষেত্রে in বসে।

In the morning, in the evening, in 2012.

গ্রাম বা ছোট শহরের নামের পূর্বে at বসে এবং বড় শহরের নামের পূর্বে বা দেশ বা মহাদেশের নামের পূর্বে in বসে। কিন্তু গ্রামে বা শহরে বা জেলায় বললে in a village, in a town, in a city, in a district হয়।

Example: Mamun lives at kamlapur (name of a village).Mamun lives in a village.

To, In, Into

কোন দিকে গতি বোঝালে To, ভিতরে স্থিতি বোঝালে In এবং ভিতরে দিকে গতি বোঝালে Into হয়।

He is going to school.He is in the school.He is entering into the class room.

By, With

ব্যক্তি বা প্রাণীর দ্বারা বোঝালে by এবং বস্ত্তর দ্বারা বোঝালে with হয়।

The rat was killed by the cat.Mamun killed the snake with a stick.

On, Upon, Over, Above

কোন কিছু ছুঁয়ে থাকলে উপরে অর্থে on, ছুয়ে না থাকলে উপরে (higher than) অর্থে over এবং অনেক উপরে অর্থে বা ঠিক উপরে অর্থে above হয়।

put the book on the table.The cat sprang upon the table.The fan is moving over his head.The fan is moving just above my head.The sky is above our head.

Between, Among

দুই এর মধ্যে between এর এবং দুই এর বেশির মধ্যে among হয়।

Since, For, From

Point of time বা কোন বিশেষ সময় থেকে বোঝাতে since ও from আর period of time অর্থাৎ কোন সময় থেকে কোন সময় পর্যন্ত সময়ের ব্যপ্তি বোঝাতে for ব্যবহৃত হয়।

He has been ill since  Sunday last.

I have not seen him from last week.

I have not seen him for a week.

# যাতায়াত বা গমনার্থে (যান বাহন দ্বারা)

I shall travel by road.We made a nice journey by boat. We entered by the back door.Tareq is going to Sylhet by bus.

# কাছাকাছি নিদিষ্ট সময়ের পূর্বে

I can finish the work by next Monday.I will ring you by 4 pmI will reach there by the evening.

#কোন ব্যাক্তি বা বস্তুর পাশে/নিকটে

The house is situated by the railway.Come and sit by me.You may pay by cheque.He achieved successby determination.A man is known by the company he keeps.

 # অনুসারে  It is 6 am by my watch.

# পরিমাপ The room is six feet by 4 feet.

#কোন ব্যাক্তি বা বস্তুর পাশে He sat by me. 

#কারও সর্ম্পকে জানাতে He is a German by birth. Rumi is Muslim by religion.

#শপথ/প্রতিজ্ঞা করা  I swear by you that I must do it. I shall help you by Allah.

#কাজের ধারা He is a politician by profession.They are improving day by day.

#কর্তৃক Mr Alam was died by accident.

#উদ্দেশ্যে  Lay by something by the future.

#কোন ব্যক্তি বা বস্তু অতিক্রম করা They passed by the forest.

#অঙ্গপ্রত্যঙ্গ নির্দেশে  She took me by the hand.

Off এর ব্যবহার

#বিচ্ছিন্ন  Switch the fan off. Turn the radio off

#দূরে Be off from me.

#বিরোধী  My sister is off smoking.

To এর ব্যবহার

তে/র  প্রকাশ করতে  We go to mosque.

#প্রতি  My mother is very kind to me.

#নিকটে The school is adjacent to our residence

#কাছে  I owe to my teachers for my success.

#দিকে/কাছে  He was walking to the river.

#সর্ম্পক They are brothers to each other.

#পর্যন্ত The soldiers fought to the last.The garden extends to the river bank.He works from dawn todusk.

#উদ্দেশ্যে  We invited him to the party.

#পরিণাম/পরিণতি  The theif was beaten to death.

#পছন্দ The watch is to my liking.The dish is not to his taste.Count from 8 to 10

#তুলনা/অনুপাত  Death is preferable to dishonour.

#ঘড়ির সময় কম বেঝাতে It is ten minutes to ten.

#কোন একটা পূর্ণ অবস্থা  There are seven days to the week

#ব্যক্তির/বস্তুর স্মৃতির উদ্দেশ্যে সম্মানে  The book is dedicated to my mother.

#দ্বারা বা দিয়ে

He failed to cope with the new environment. She is living with his aunt.I cannot comply with your request. His opinion coincided with me.

I will not compete with you for the post. I am acquainted with him.I shall communicate with my mother on the matter.They were amazed with the news.

The teacher deals with the subjects vividly.The function began with the national anthem.I hope you will cooperate with me in this matter.Don’t abide with a criminal.

 I am vexed with your conduct. The student is busy with his desk.The machine runs with electricity.

# কারো প্রতি বা উপরে

Mr Matin is not happy with his job. Mr Rahman is popular with the students.He is angry with his younger brother. I am familiar with him.I am content with what I have.

#কাজের ভাব He deals with rice.  He deals with vegetables

#মালিকানা Do you have any money with you?

#তুলনা Nazrul can be compared with Shelly.

#পরিমান The Padma abounds with fish.

#মতের মিল/অমিল  I agree with your proposal.

#পরিতৃপ্ত/সন্তুষ্ট  Man should be satisfied with what he has. I am content with his behaviour.I am satisfied with his result.

#খুশি/অসন্তুষ্ট He is pleased with me. I am dissatisfied with his behaviour.

# বিরক্ত I am disgusted with his behaviour. .

#বস্তু দ্বারা  The hunter shot the bird with a gun. He killed a snake with a stick.

#ভয়ে,রাগে,দুর্বলতায়/ঠান্ডায় কেপে উঠা  The child was trembling with fear.

 #পূরণ The bottle is filled with water.

Out এর ব্যবহার

#বুঝতে পারা I can not make out what you say.

#নিয়ে আসা Computer has brought out a great change.

#ফেটে পড়া He burst out laughing at my joke.

For এর ব্যবহার

#ব্যপক বা অনিদিষ্ট সময়ের I am going away for a few days.

#প্রত্যাশা করা We hope for better result.

#কোন ব্যাক্তি বা বস্তুর জন্যে There is a letter for you.The girl has a great aptitude for music.

#পরিবর্তে He acted for me.

#মনে করা A greedy man is eager for riches.

#সাহায্য অর্থে What can I do for you?

#উদ্দেশ্যে বা কাজ নির্দেশে What did you do that for? He is learning English for his work.

#বুঝতে পারা I cannot call up his name.

#উঠা  He gets up early in the morning.

Uses of against     

#বিরুদ্ধে,প্রতিকুল,বিরুদ্ধচারন

One should defend oneself against evil temptations.I pleaded against his conduct.I have no claimagainst Kamal.The workers rebelled against the mill owner.

I have antipathy against him.He brought a charge against me.He is against all corruptions.I complained against the criminal.

#পাশে/ঠেস দেওয়া  Don’t lean against the wall He kept the sack against the wall

#সংস্থান/প্রস্ততি/সাবধানতা

Everyone should store something against the rainy day. Seventy students passed against eighty. Stealing is against the law.

#Beyond এর ব্যবহার

#কোন কিছুর বাইরে Nobody will go beyond the enclosure of the garden.

#নাগালের বাইরে/ছাড়িয়ে The matter was beyond imagination.

#নির্দিষ্ট সময়ের পরে You should not come to the office beyond 10 oclock.

#ব্যতীত He gets nothing beyond it.

Behind
